Dubbing itself “the Wilderness City”, Whitehorse is a growing urban area of 26,000 people located in an idyllic spot in the Yukon Territories. It also has a bear problem.

The locally based charity WildWise Yukon did a study looking into bear-human conflict situations and found that between 1997 and 2014 there had been 243 incidents, 33 in the downtown area.

As the city grows, generating more organic waste and garbage, bears will continue to roam the streets of “the Wilderness City” until more action is taken.
